October, 2002: Cheshire found to have been accused of
repeatedly violating water safety standards by the Connecticut Fund for The Environment
(CFE). Purportedly "exposes the efforts
of the CT Business & Industry Association to weaken proposed standards for
protecting underground drinking water supplies from industrial contamination as
part of the state's efforts to encourage the redevelopment of abandoned
industrial sites in urban areas."
Results in a 1994-1995 investigation.

1999 - Cheshire makes the Top Ten List of Toxins in Connecticut
Report: Cheshire ties for 2nd place with Waterbury as having the most hazardous
sites considered for cleanup by the EPA. As of May 5, 2002, the EPA has only
attempted to clean-up 1 of the 11 sites. Note: By some counts, there are as
many as 16 sites in Cheshire.
1997 - Leaks detected
from underground gasoline storage tank at unnamed Cheshire gas station:

placement on EPA's National Priorities List: Detailed summary of contamination
at 1 of the 11 sites in Cheshire considered most hazardous by the US
Environmental Protection Agency. Evidence of contamination dates back to 1960's
and 1970's. Evidence suggests knowledge of contamination as early as 1980.
